And wind chimes swing

Small lake’s frozen ripples,
Covertly hold season’s secrets
Beneath.
Stunned fish slowly swim, searching ice underbelly.
Escaping predators, painted turtles sleep,
Concealed under logs at shore,
Breathe slow, low, waiting.
Snapping Turtles stop, drop to shallow bottom,
Little oxygen needed.
Fallen Cattail, partially exposed, roots held snuggly.

While darkness creeps
Far to early, ending long winter days.
